Ahhhh... Finally the weekend... School really makes you appreciate Saturdays and Sundays (previously I couldn't tell the days apart).
Well, one of my favourite lectures so far is my Intro Biology lecture, cos it's the easiest to understand so far (doesn't have any complicated formulae or rational behind it to remember... SO FAR) and the professor teaching is pretty amusing.
So I shall share with you guys the more interesting bits... ^^
1) Ok, so we were talking about dissolving solutes in water as it is the universal solvent, and Prof Law was saying how, if a large amt of solvent was used to dissolve a small amt of solute, that the concentration of the end solution will not be too affected. So he gave an example of dissolving sugar in the coffee we drink. He said that most people use only 1-2 teaspoons of sugar for one cup so a little more or less sugar wouldn't affect the taste too much... Then he asked, "Unless you're a person who uses 5 teaspoons instead, and who in the world would drink coffee with 5 teaspoons of sugar?" That had us all chuckling... but internally, I replied "L would.." ^^;
2)Then we went on to pH and the way it affects our bodies. So there was this slide that listed acidosis causes diarrhoea and vomiting... Prof Law went on to explain tht was due to the change in optimal pH in the cells tht upsets the pH value in the ion channels... so all the channels open and all the water gush out = diarrhoea!!! I was lol-ing so hard at tht part.
3) Last but not least, the quote he said which I think is the most true: "Doing research is trying, forever, to prove tht you're wrong yesterday." And I was stunned for a moment... cos it made perfect sense. Aren't scientists and researchers forever discovering things to either prove they're right or prove themselves wrong? My gosh... ah ha ha ha!
